As part of the modernization of buildings along the riverfront at Lower Thames Street, Dowgate Fire Station which was part of Mondial House was commissioned to be refurbished from a drab 60’s looking interior to a modern fire station incorporating office facilities for Borough Liaison Officers.

Dowgate Fire Station is a fully operational Fire Station covering part of the City of London. The project works was therefore split into two phases to maintain this.

Phase one entailed the construction and refurbishment of new office accommodation, the Station Commander’s office and male and female dormitories all of which were constructed in an adjacent part of the site which was previously occupied by BT.

The services installation was new throughout and was partly constructed and put into operation at the end of phase one for the occupants to take beneficial use of whilst phase two commenced.

Phase two consisted of complete refurbishment of the existing fire station which included the installation of a new lift to comply with DDA regulations, alterations to the station operation room which required 24/7 access by the brigade. Works were also undertaken to the appliance bay with new fire shutter doors being installed.
